CFL Week 7 preview and predictions
Week 6 was certainly exciting, with all four games won by no more than seven points. To me that means that while the best teams are fighting to stay on top, the worst teams aren’t willing to give up, and why should they, we’re only a third of the way through the season.
A few notes from Week Six
The Good
If the past three-four weeks are how Darian Durant plays when sick, the rest of the league will be sick when they see him healthy again.
Montreal is really, really good, and opportunistic, and good.
Arland Bruce III is also really, really good.
Cory Boyd isn’t that bad either.
Durant is on pace to pass for 6,120 yards, which would put him in third place for most passing yards in a season.
Bruce is on pace for 2,040 receiving yards this season, which would put him in first place for most receiving yards in a season.
Boyd is on pace for 1,940 rushing yards, which would put him in third place overall for rushing yards in a season.
The Bad
Edmonton is probably one of the most talented bad teams in recent history. Hamilton’s struggles can be attributed to the disappearance of running back DeAndra’ Cobb. He only has 35 more rushing yards than Darian Durant.
Joffrey Reynolds hasn’t had a 100-yard rushing game for Calgary this season since Week 1.
The Ugly
The Eskimos remain true to form by teasing their fans with a great third quarter, only to let the win slip away in the fourth. Travis Lulay only threw for 159 yards and one interception for the British Columbia Lions before being pulled in favour of Jarious Jackson.
Players of the week
Offence: Cory Boyd – 25 carries, 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Defence: Chip Cox – Eight tackles and two interceptions.
Special Teams: Tim Maypray – Six kick returns and 109 yards; One punt return and seven yards; One missed field goal return, 118 yards and one touchdown.
Now… on to Week 7!

Breakdown:Chris: Despite losing, the Riders proved that they are still King of the Comeback and that doesn’t bode well for anyone. With Durant on the mend and the Riders coming off a heartbreaking four point loss, the Lions are in for a rough night at Mosaic. Dalen: The Riders bounce back big time against the ailing Lions. Sask 42 14 Jonathan: The last time these two teams met, Saskatchewan was all over BC’s quarterbacks. Expect the pressure to get to BC again. Scott: I am not going to be liked for this pick, but I do feel the situation gives me enough to think the Lions might be due for a win. It is the Hall of Fame game and it is in Regina, but Wally Buono’s job should be in jeopardy if they lose again. The Travis Lulay experiment has failed for now and with Jarius Jackson coming back I feel the Lions have enough to warrant the thought that a desperate team to exploit an average secondary. I’m sure Durant is feeling better, but not quite 100% and that will hurt him against BC’s ballhawking defense. BC 42-35

Breakdown:Chris: I expect that Hamilton will continue to build on the success they had last week as they travel to Winnipeg to take on the Bombers for the second straight week. Dalen: Hamilton puts franchise uncertainties on hold for a while with a great comeback win over the Bombers. Oh and Arland Bruce III gets almost 200 yards again, but he gets tackled 15 times and gets injured. Hamilton 33-30 Jonathan: Not many people are picking Winnipeg this week, but “danger” is my middle name. Winnipeg plays Hamilton better at home and the Tiger-Cats didn’t exactly dominate in their win last week. Scott: Again it will be a close game for these two teams. I switched from Hamilton to Winnipeg last second last week and even though Hamilton won, I think Winnipeg will be winning this one. The last game would have come down to a field goal had Serna not missed two in the game. Although that field goal wouldn’t have been a guarantee. I’m not sure if Sakoda is the answer, but I don’t think it will matter this time. The Bombers are at home and will want to get back at the TiCats for last weeks loss. Winnipeg 33-29

Breakdown:Chris: The Argos are starting to come together as a team and Cleo Lemon proved that he can be an effective CFL quarterback. That said, Anthony Calvillo is still the best in the league and will show that as the Alouettes beat the Argonauts to solidify their first place ranking. Dalen: I just can’t pick Montreal again so I am not. The only way to justify this is to say.. wow i can’t justify this. Go Argonauts. Toronto 29-28 Jonathan: Apparently Anthony Calvillo, will play. That is reason enough to pick Montreal to win. Toronto relies on the running game, Cory Boyd in particular, to win ball games. Cleo Lemon is improving under centre, but Boyd. Montreal does such a good job stopping the run, so they should force Lemon to throw a lot. This won’t be good news for Toronto. Scott: After dislocating the index finger on his throwing hand, Anthony Calvillo could be in some trouble to come back to form anytime soon. Even if he does make a miraculous comeback, he won’t have the same zip or touch on the ball that he needs. Whoever lines up behind centre should be enough to lead the Alouettes past the Argonauts. Cleo Lemon looked better in the Edmonton win, but it was Edmonton and Montreal without Calvillo still has a lot of weapons to get the job done against the Argos. Closer than last time, but still the Alouettess. Montreal 29-18

Breakdown:Chris: I want to believe in Edmonton, but I just can’t. They have almost guaranteed that they will miss the playoffs this year. Something has to change, somewhere, something has to change. Calgary gets another win, staying one step ahead of the Riders in the West. Dalen: I just have a feeling Edmonton is going to win this one. I think Ricky Ray will finally have an amazing game and throw for 400 yards. Jonathan: Without Fred Stamps, I just don’t see Edmonton winning this game. Expect Calgary’s solid run defence to shut down Arkee Whitlock and then put tons of pressure on Ricky Ray. Scott: Like the Lions, the Eskimos are desperate for a win and with the lack of emotion shown by Calgary, you might say Calgary was ripe for an upset. It is one thing to think it could happen with Fred Stamps in the lineup, but I think the way things have been going, trying to win without Stamps will be next to impossible. Stamps was leading the Eskimos in receiving and really was one of the only sparks Ricky Ray could go to when things were down. Andre Talbot will be expected to step up, which he will, but not enough to spark the Esks to victory. Calgary 32-10

Ya I noticed that. The picks should be
Scott: BC, Winnipeg, Montreal and Calgary
Jon: Sask, Winnipeg, Montreal and Calgary
If I hadn't gone out on a limb, that would have been 3 weeks in a row Jon… CRAZY! I am kind of hoping, KIND OF hoping the Riders win, cause I'm going to be at the game. Someone gave us tickets after I made my picks. Don't worry, I will be cheering for the Riders. Sort of.. I kind of have to. It's in my vows. My wife is a Rider fan. But I would have anyway.
Ya I noticed that too…. It should be a good game.
Well, my wife was happy and I enjoyed the game, but all at the expense of my record. Oh well. Kudos to the Riders. I guess the Lions aren't that good after all. Bye Bye Chapdelaine…..
haha, i am going for a 4-0 in 2 of the last 3 weeks.
What the heck, Scott, Winnipeg has let us down two weeks in a row. When will we learn?
Hahaha, Brandon, do you really expect to go 4-0 picking Edmonton over Calgary?
I'm glad you picked Winnipeg Jonathan, it gives me sole possession of first place. :-D
What is wrong with the bombers! I think things will star shaping up a lot closer to my original standing predictions, but it's hurting my record!
Brandon… Almost all of us got 4-0 two weeks ago. If you did this week, that would be impressive.
I'll be back in first soon Chris
damn, i was close is started 2-0 and thne it plummeted.
and you gave gizzie a green even though he picked edmonton.
