With the bye weeks past some teams will use the time to recharge, hoping to put the first half of the season behind them first half of the season, while some will use the time off to rest and recuperate, recharged for a second half as strong as the first half with eyes on the Grey Cup.
A few notes from Week 9
The good
Calgary is the best team in the West and possibly the best in the league.
It took two quarterbacks, but the Eskimos won.
James Patrick had a great game, picking off three passes and returning one for a touchdown.
The bad
British Columbia really never had a chance.
The Eskimos and Riders for that matter, won’t win again if they continue to play like they did last week.
The ugly
No professional football team should turn the ball over SIX times in one game.
No professional football game should involve 9 turnovers.
If you didn’t watch the Saskatchewan/Edmonton game, consider yourself lucky, it wasn’t pretty.
Players of the week
Offence: Ken-Yon Rambo, receiver, Calgary - nine catches, 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Defence: James Patrick, safety, Saskatchewan – three tackles, three interceptions and one touchdown.
Special Teams: Jovon Johnson, corner back, Winnipeg – six punt returns, 105 yards and one touchdown.
Now… on to Week 10!

Breakdown:
Chris: With or without Calvillo, the Alouettes will be too much for the Lions to handle.
Jonathan: British Columbia can’t protect their quarterback. Because of this, Montreal will blitz them relentlessly. While I think the loss of Calvillo will hurt, Chris Leak shouldn’t have to score many points.
Scott: Watching Montreal after losing Calvillo, showed the Als are a great team in general. Losing Calvillo didn’t slow them too much. They did have a large lead to work with and should never be underestimated. With Calvillo out of the game this Friday against the Lions, there could be some problems for the Als. The line held up enough to give Leak time to throw two weeks ago against a good pass rush from Winnipeg, but it’s the pass defence that would scare me if I was the Als. Desperation and Calvillo out, make me think BC will pull it out. BC 25-19 |

Breakdown:
Chris: After an embarassing outing in Edmonton, the Riders will seek revenge at home against the lowly Blue Bombers.
Jonathan: Saskatchewan should win this game. But, then again, they should have beat Edmonton to. It is hard to see them losing a Labour Day game at home.
Scott: Saskatchewan lost a game they never should have lost. Either Edmonton’s defence stepped up, or Saskatchewan’s offence took a step back to reality. I think it’s a little bit of both. Not to mention, rain can make things difficult. It didn’t rain the whole game though. Whatever it was, the Riders will be very motivated to win again. The good news is that it’s Winnipeg and it’s at Mosaic Stadium. Winnipeg is not horrible, but Saskatchewan is really good at home. No question, for this one. Saskatchewan 42-18 |

Jonathan: Hamilton will take their rightful place in the East’s second spot.
Scott: This is a game that will show if Toronto is who they thought they were and give Hamilton the confidence they need and make the rest of the league believers. I just don’t know which one it’s going to be. I think teams have made adjustments to the Toronto defence, and with Glenn playing very solid football, I’m thinking the Ti-Cats will take this one. Breakdown:
Chris: It took a pathetic showing from Saskatchewan for Edmonton to notch their second victory of the season. Don’t expect win #3 to come in Calgary.
Jonathan: Edmonton has a chance, if Calgary forgets what time the game starts.
Scott: The Calgary Stampeders are playing very solid football as of late, but Labour Day seems to be a date where either team could win. The Eskimos did get a big win at home against the Roughriders, but it wasn’t pretty, and they didn’t play super well. There are still a lot of questions the Eskimos have. The win against the Riders may have given them some confidence, but I think it was just an emotional band-aid. They can’t get comfortable and I have a feeling that win may have done that. It should be another blowout. Calgary 40-18 |

Well, it’s Week 9 in the CFL and the East Division gets a bye week this week.
First and foremost, neither of last weeks games were really exciting and unfortunately this weeks games won’t be either. Oh, there may be a lot of scoring, but I don’t see a field goal shootout like we saw last week in Toronto. Instead, we have two David versus Goliath match-ups with the two worst teams in the league taking on two of the best.
A few notes from Week 8
The good
The Eskimos and Lions were undefeated over the weekend.
Hamilton finally beat a team other than Winnipeg.
Even without Anthony Calvillo, the Alouettes mopped the floor with the Bombers.
DeAndra’ Cobb continues to improve for Hamilton.
The bad
Although undefeated, the Eskimos and Lions still haven’t won anymore games.
Either Winnipeg, Edmonton or British Columbia will make the playoffs.
The crowd in Toronto is increasing slowly.
The ugly
The Eskimos and Lions have to resume play this week.
Having to sit through two bye weeks.
The Alouettes season if Calvillo remains injured.
Winnipeg’s season regardless of who stays healthy.
Players of the week
Offence: Brandon Whitaker (Running Back, Montreal) – 11 rushes, 74 yards, two touchdowns; five receptions and 44 yards
Defence: Chip Cox (Linebacker, Montreal) – Nine tackles and one sack
Special Teams: Jovon Johnson (Defensive Back, Winnipeg) – Six punt returns, 105 yards and one touchdown.
Now… on to Week 9!

Well, it’s Week 8 in the CFL and the West Division gets a bye week.
Not only is it the first bye week, but this CFL Daily Dose’s 100th POST! So, before getting into this week’s games, I would like to thank anyone and everyone who has made CFL Daily Dose a success.
A few notes from Week 7
The good
If you are a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan you have to like the way the green and white bounced back last week after a few rough weeks.
Cleo Lemon was impressive against the Alouettes.
For the first time ever, it looks like an East team will crossover for the playoffs.
BC had to have liked what they saw out of running back Yonus Davis.
Marcus Thigpen will look to continue to find different ways to score touchdowns for Hamilton, after becoming the first player in CFL history to have scored a touchdown five different ways in one season.
The bad
The Lions and Esks are inching closer and closer to being eliminated from playoff contention.
Winnipeg has lost three straight games.
Montreal lost to Toronto.
The ugly
With only 28 points between them last week, the Lions and Eskimos were outscored by all four winning teams.
The Lions and Eskimos quarterback situations.
Dominique Dorsey returning kicks.
Players of the week
Offence: Chad Owens – Receiving: Six catches, 163 yards and two touchdowns; Kick Returns: Two returns and 85 yards
Defence: Jerrell Freeman – Three tackles and three sacks
Special Teams: Kelly Campbell – Kick Returns: Five returns, 141 yards; Punt Returns: Five returns, 162 yards and one touchdown.

Breakdown:
Chris: I highly doubt that Montreal loses two in a row, especially at home. Winnipeg would do well to study the last six quarters the Als have played and use that to their advantage… but even if they do that it’s not likely that the Alouettes lose.
Jonathan: Montreal will be angry in this one. Winnipeg has been so close to winning their last three games, but close won’t be enough against Monteal. I think the Bombers have a chance, but no team seems to be able to win in Montreal.
Scott: The Bombers have some life with Steven Jyles coming off the bench to score some points late against the Tiger-Cats, but Winnipeg is no Toronto and Montreal will be motivated after losing to the Argos. If Winnipeg was playing a lesser opponent, I might think it would be close or a Winnipeg win. Montreal 30-23

Breakdown:
Chris: I like Hamilton in this one. Why? Because, Toronto still isn’t an unbeatable team. I suspect this will be the game that Hamilton finally starts playing to expectations.
Jonathan: I may have underestimated Toronto, but I still think Hamilton will be second place in the East Division when all is said and done. The Tiger-Cats need this victory more, because if they lose Toronto will gain a big lead on them. Expect Arland Bruce III to have another big day.
Scott: This is a tough pick for me, seeing as I still question if Toronto is the team the have been far. The Tiger-Cats have been playing very well as of late, but it’s only been against the Bombers. The main thing I think the Argonauts do have going for them is that they are playing at home. I think it will be close, but Toronto should end up on top. Toronto 32-28
Brandon:I like Hamilton to take this one, but, then again, Hamilton usually loses one of these home and home games to Toronto and I’m attending the Labour Day Classic and won’t enjoy watching them lose. But, who says they can’t win four in a row? Last year Hamilton lost in Toronto because of their kicker Nick Setta, but, replace Setta with Deangelis and that’s not going to happen. |

Week 6 was certainly exciting, with all four games won by no more than seven points. To me that means that while the best teams are fighting to stay on top, the worst teams aren’t willing to give up, and why should they, we’re only a third of the way through the season.
A few notes from Week Six
The Good
If the past three-four weeks are how Darian Durant plays when sick, the rest of the league will be sick when they see him healthy again.
Montreal is really, really good, and opportunistic, and good.
Arland Bruce III is also really, really good.
Cory Boyd isn’t that bad either.
Durant is on pace to pass for 6,120 yards, which would put him in third place for most passing yards in a season.
Bruce is on pace for 2,040 receiving yards this season, which would put him in first place for most receiving yards in a season.
Boyd is on pace for 1,940 rushing yards, which would put him in third place overall for rushing yards in a season.
The Bad
Edmonton is probably one of the most talented bad teams in recent history. Hamilton’s struggles can be attributed to the disappearance of running back DeAndra’ Cobb. He only has 35 more rushing yards than Darian Durant.
Joffrey Reynolds hasn’t had a 100-yard rushing game for Calgary this season since Week 1.
The Ugly
The Eskimos remain true to form by teasing their fans with a great third quarter, only to let the win slip away in the fourth. Travis Lulay only threw for 159 yards and one interception for the British Columbia Lions before being pulled in favour of Jarious Jackson.
Players of the week
Offence: Cory Boyd – 25 carries, 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Defence: Chip Cox – Eight tackles and two interceptions.
Special Teams: Tim Maypray – Six kick returns and 109 yards; One punt return and seven yards; One missed field goal return, 118 yards and one touchdown.

Breakdown:
Chris: Despite losing, the Riders proved that they are still King of the Comeback and that doesn’t bode well for anyone. With Durant on the mend and the Riders coming off a heartbreaking four point loss, the Lions are in for a rough night at Mosaic.
Dalen: The Riders bounce back big time against the ailing Lions. Sask 42 14
Jonathan: The last time these two teams met, Saskatchewan was all over BC’s quarterbacks. Expect the pressure to get to BC again.
Scott: I am not going to be liked for this pick, but I do feel the situation gives me enough to think the Lions might be due for a win. It is the Hall of Fame game and it is in Regina, but Wally Buono’s job should be in jeopardy if they lose again. The Travis Lulay experiment has failed for now and with Jarius Jackson coming back I feel the Lions have enough to warrant the thought that a desperate team to exploit an average secondary. I’m sure Durant is feeling better, but not quite 100% and that will hurt him against BC’s ballhawking defense. BC 42-35 |

Breakdown:
Chris: I expect that Hamilton will continue to build on the success they had last week as they travel to Winnipeg to take on the Bombers for the second straight week.
Dalen: Hamilton puts franchise uncertainties on hold for a while with a great comeback win over the Bombers. Oh and Arland Bruce III gets almost 200 yards again, but he gets tackled 15 times and gets injured. Hamilton 33-30
Jonathan: Not many people are picking Winnipeg this week, but “danger” is my middle name. Winnipeg plays Hamilton better at home and the Tiger-Cats didn’t exactly dominate in their win last week.
Scott: Again it will be a close game for these two teams. I switched from Hamilton to Winnipeg last second last week and even though Hamilton won, I think Winnipeg will be winning this one. The last game would have come down to a field goal had Serna not missed two in the game. Although that field goal wouldn’t have been a guarantee. I’m not sure if Sakoda is the answer, but I don’t think it will matter this time. The Bombers are at home and will want to get back at the TiCats for last weeks loss. Winnipeg 33-29 |

Breakdown:
Chris: The Argos are starting to come together as a team and Cleo Lemon proved that he can be an effective CFL quarterback. That said, Anthony Calvillo is still the best in the league and will show that as the Alouettes beat the Argonauts to solidify their first place ranking.
Dalen: I just can’t pick Montreal again so I am not. The only way to justify this is to say.. wow i can’t justify this. Go Argonauts. Toronto 29-28
Jonathan: Apparently Anthony Calvillo, will play. That is reason enough to pick Montreal to win. Toronto relies on the running game, Cory Boyd in particular, to win ball games. Cleo Lemon is improving under centre, but Boyd. Montreal does such a good job stopping the run, so they should force Lemon to throw a lot. This won’t be good news for Toronto.
Scott: After dislocating the index finger on his throwing hand, Anthony Calvillo could be in some trouble to come back to form anytime soon. Even if he does make a miraculous comeback, he won’t have the same zip or touch on the ball that he needs. Whoever lines up behind centre should be enough to lead the Alouettes past the Argonauts. Cleo Lemon looked better in the Edmonton win, but it was Edmonton and Montreal without Calvillo still has a lot of weapons to get the job done against the Argos. Closer than last time, but still the Alouettess. Montreal 29-18 |

Breakdown:
Chris: I want to believe in Edmonton, but I just can’t. They have almost guaranteed that they will miss the playoffs this year. Something has to change, somewhere, something has to change. Calgary gets another win, staying one step ahead of the Riders in the West.
Dalen: I just have a feeling Edmonton is going to win this one. I think Ricky Ray will finally have an amazing game and throw for 400 yards.
Jonathan: Without Fred Stamps, I just don’t see Edmonton winning this game. Expect Calgary’s solid run defence to shut down Arkee Whitlock and then put tons of pressure on Ricky Ray.
Scott: Like the Lions, the Eskimos are desperate for a win and with the lack of emotion shown by Calgary, you might say Calgary was ripe for an upset. It is one thing to think it could happen with Fred Stamps in the lineup, but I think the way things have been going, trying to win without Stamps will be next to impossible. Stamps was leading the Eskimos in receiving and really was one of the only sparks Ricky Ray could go to when things were down. Andre Talbot will be expected to step up, which he will, but not enough to spark the Esks to victory. Calgary 32-10 |

Week 5 is complete and unless you were rooting for the Alouettes, there was a lot of sloppy football happening. There was a weather induced mess in Edmonton, but to be totally honest, the rain wasn’t fully to blame for the mess in Edmonton.
While Calgary and Saskatchewan are obviously the teams to beat in the West, Montreal has quickly asserted themselves as the team to beat in the CFL, period. There isn’t a team in the CFL playing better football right now.
A few notes from Week Five
The Good
Avon Cobourne was amazing and single-handedly tore the Argonauts defence apart.
After a flurry of return TDs in the opening weeks, teams have started to shut down returners.
Dave Stala’s touchdown celebration was one of the coolest I’ve seen in a long time. Edmonton won one.
Ken-Yon Rambo had a successful return from injury for Calgary.
The Bad
Travis Lulay looked awful, fumbling three times (one lost) and throwing two interceptions.
Joffrey Reynolds only had 30 rushing yards on nine carries.
Saskatchewan called a shotgun play on third and one.
The Ugly
Hamilton is getting beat by kickers.
Darian Durant has thrown five interceptions in the last three weeks.
Cleo Lemon and Lulay threw for less than 150 yards.
Players of the week
Offence: Avon Cobourne – Rushing: 20 carries, 115 yards, two touchdowns and one fumble; Receiving: Eight receptions and 116 yards.
Defence: Davis Sanchez – Nine tackles and one interception.
Special Teams: Luca Congi – 7/7 on field goals, 2/2 on extra points and 23 total points.

Breakdown:
Chris: I wanted to pick the Riders in this one, but Montreal has played a lot better than them lately.
Dalen: In the game of the week the Riders battle the Alouettes rght down to the wire. I believe the game comes down to a battle between Double D (Darian Durant) and the big AC (Anthony Calvillo). Montreal has not lost at home in almost two years. I predict the Riders play their first good game in three weeks beating the Alouettes. 38-35 Riders
Jonathan: I’ve got to go against my team this week. If these teams would have met after Week 2, I would have guessed Saskatchewan would come out on top. But since Week 2, the Riders have been struggling, even though they’ve went 2-1-0. Durant is throwing more interceptions and the offence is not scoring enough touchdowns. But, the big concern is the pass defence. Can Saskatchewan hold off Montreal’s potent passing attack?
Scott: The offences are both very good, but again the defences aren’t the best. Both have gotten better, but still need work. Montreal only gave up 10 points to the Toronto Argonauts, but the Argonauts offence is awful! The teams are close, but there are a couple of intangibles that will probably decide the game. The Alouettes have been pretty motivated after losing the first game of the season after leading for the majority of the game against Saskatchewan. They have won four in a row, with their only loss to the Riders and they will be extra motivated, especially at home in Montreal. Montreal 35-25 |

Chris: Last week wasn’t pretty for the Eskimos, but they should be able to hold a mediocre Argonautss team at home.
Dalen: The best game of the week followed up by the worst game of the week in my opinion. I think Cleo Lemon has a big game on the ground and that the Toronto Argonauts walk all over the Eskimos. It might be time to start talking about some coaching changes around coach Hall. 33- 10 Argonauts
Jonathan: I am losing faith in Lemon more and more as the season goes on. The Argonauts have been winning games by keeping the score close, but if Lemon and the offence don’t start putting up points, they are going to have to rely completely on their defence. I think Edmonton has the tools on offence to put Toronto away this week.
Scott: Toronto losing quite badly to Montreal will cause Toronto to change some things. Edmonton won their first game of the year last week. Both teams have motivation, but often getting the monkey off your back can often open a team up to more wins. Toronto won some games they shouldn’t have and Edmonton lost some games they probably shouldn’t have. Now that Edmonton has won, the confidence will be the key. Edmonton 29-20 |

Breakdown:
Chris: This could be the week my record goes down the drain, but I have to go with the best team in this one, and that is the Tiger-Cats.
Dalen: Hamilton is alot better then their 1-4-0 record dictates. They have a good football team that has had some tough early games and some bad luck. I dont think Arland Bruce III will be as big as he was last week in Regina, but he will be a big factor. Winnipeg needs a great start to the football game or Hamilton will crush them. I say the Hamilton aerial attack prevails big time. 48-19 Tiger- Cats
Jonathan: I like what Jyles has done under centre since replacing the injured Buck Pierce. I think he gives the Bombers a good shot. But, the big thing to consider is Winnipeg’s starting running back Fred Reid has 353 yards while Hamilton’s starting running back DeAndra’ Cobb has 202 yards. Winnipeg will stop Hamilton’s ground game and be able to put extra coverage on Arland Bruce III.
Scott: Winnipeg may have lost to Calgary, but there were many positives the came out of it. Steven Jyles has shown some spark and while he’s not a guy I would pick to run an offence, he does some things well enough to win a few games here and there. Plus, they didn’t turn over the ball aside from the turnover on downs at the end. That can give you a much better chance to win. Hamilton has shown flashes of talent and with Kevin Glenn and Arland Bruce III they always have a chance to win. Very tough to call, but I have to give the nod to the Bombers. Winnipeg 31-25 |

Chris: I really don’t see a way for British Columbia to win without a major choke job by Burris and even then it may not happen.
Dalen: My brain tells me that this will be a lop-sided game, but my heart wont believe it. Calgary is firing on all eight cylinders right now. They are playing good football. BC, on the other hand, is playing terribly. I think that Calgary will probably win this one in a blowout, but i am going to pick the Lions in a very close game. Hank will throw three or four picks and the Lions will take advantage. 30-28 BC
Jonathan: Whenever these teams meet, it seems to be an exciting offence-oriented game. However, with Travis Lulay starting again for BC, I don’t see them being able to match Calgary. Lulay throws too many interceptions and can’t take over a game. Look for the Stampeders to get Joffery Reynolds invovled in the game and attack BC’s defence that is allowing 144 rushing yards a game.
Scott: The Lions are having troubles. They resemble the Argonauts in their ability to play defence and make some plays, but the offence is having serious troubles getting going. I don’t see it working with any of the quarterbacks they have. Calgary has a problem putting the pedal down when they get out to a lead, so I don’t expect a blowout. Calgary’s run defence has been solid and Jamal Robertson has been most of BC’s offence. Calgary 26-13 |

Week 4 is in the books and for a few teams, I’m looking at you Saskatchewan and Edmonton, it’s none too soon after poor showings last week. Though it is only Week 5, it is becoming increasingly clear how the final standings will likely end up. With two teams in each division flying high and two on either side barely making it from week to week, the next few weeks are vitally important for the bottom four.
A few notes from Week Four
The Good
Calgary got its groove back…
Seriously, watch the first half of last weeks game versus the second half. It was like two different teams took the field.
Toronto has rebounded nicely after an abysmal 2009.
The Bad
Seriously? The Toronto/BC game was billed as Lulay-Lemon Athletica.
Saskatchewan didn’t look like the the same team that took Montreal to their limit in Week 1.
The Ugly
Edmonton is off to their worst start since 1965.
Montreal was forced to attempt eight field goals in their victory over Hamilton.
Players of the week
Offence: Romby Bryant - Seven catches, 116 yards and two touchdowns
Defence: James Patrick - Eight tackles and two interceptions
Special Teams: Jovon Johnson - Four punt returns, 100 yards and one touchdown

Chris: The Alouettes won’t give up first place at home, not to Cleo Lemon. Not this year.
Chase: Toronto has been playing good so far this year and definitely benefited from two quarterback collapses in their last two wins. I don’t see them being able to take advantage of Anthony Calvillo and Montreal’s effecient offence. They aren’t ready to take out the champs.
Scott: The Toronto Argonauts have won some exciting games by some stellar play on defence. I am just not sure they can do it again. Their defence is really good, but unfortunately they are no longer under the radar. Their offence won’t be able to out score the ‘Mighty’ Alouettes. Montreal 38-25 |

Chris: There’s a football team in Edmonton? Who knew.
If Edmonton’s offensive line doesn’t get their act together, Ricky Ray won’t survive the season.
Chase: Edmonton is horrible this year and BC did have a fairly good showing without Casey Printers against Toronto. Edmonton seems like the worst team in the CFL by a long shot. This game should be close but BC should pull it out on the other side of the ball and make up for their quarterback crisis.
Scott: The Edmonton Eskimos confuse me greatly. On paper they should be a lot better than they are showing. I do however think this team is so close to breaking out and winning a few games. After being called out by Eskimos president Rick Lelacheur, the Eskimos will be extra motivated and I think the Travis Lulay led Lions will be ripe for the picking. Edmonton 26-19 |

Breakdown:
Chris: The Riders have two choices after last weeks loss to Calgary. They can let it consume them, or they can learn from it and come back stronger than they were before. I see the later happening in Regina this week.
The Tiger-Cats need some sort of motivation if they are ever to live up to their billing as the team to unseat Montreal in the East. A game against the blood thirsty Riders isn’t the game they were looking for.
Chase: Even after their downslide against Calgary, I am still riding the Riders and coming back to Mosaic Stadium. There should be the perfect conditions for them to bounce back.
Scott: The Saskatchewan Roughriders were humilated by the Stampeders this past week and any good team that loses like that will win the next week. It’s part of the reason the Stamps were so motivated against the Riders after their loss to Toronto. Expect another hostile crowd in Regina and expect a blowout by the hometown team. Breakdown:
Chris: Now that the Stamps have found their groove, they will be tough to beat, especially at home.
Winnipeg, on the other hand, needs to figure out who they are. Are they the team that lost by three touchdowns to Hamilton in Week 3, or the team that manhandled the Eskimos last week? Only time will tell, but my instinct is that they will struggle to hit .500 this year.
Chase: Winnipeg looked good without Buck Pierce last week, but it was against the Eskimos (that is my third Eskimos swipe this article, last one I promise) and Calgary is staying at home coming off of a big statement win against the Riders. Look for a defensive game by Winnipeg and if they can create the turnovers they did last week they will have a chance, but betting on a team getting a high number of defensive touchdowns is risky. Calgary is the more complete team in this match-up.
Scott: Winnipeg has been a Jeckyl and Hyde team this year and even though Steven Jyles did pull out an impressive win, it was still against the winless Eskimos. The Stampeders are finding their stride offensively and their defende is playing very well. Winnipeg will be prepared, so I am not anticipating a blowout, but Calgary should control the game throughout. Calgaary 38-24 |

Week 3 is done in the CFL and as the season progresses a clearer picture is beginning to form as to which teams are the teams to beat and which ones will be the whipping boys this year. That said… it IS still only Week 4 and with 15 games left, anything can happen.
A few notes from Week Three
The Good
With a win over BC this week Toronto would tie their win total from last season, and one shy of their 2008 mark.
Toronto is off to their best start since 2007.
Durant and Calvillo are averaging 300+ yards per game.
Glenn and Ray are averaging 296 per game.
Three of the top eleven rushers are QB’s, and those three have more than 100 yards rushing.
The Bad
Edmonton can’t seem to finish.
Once again the Eskimos offence stalled in the red zone on numerous occasions against Saskatchewan on Saturday.
Buck Pierce has more rushing yards than Avon Cobourne and DeAndra’ Cobb.
The Ugly
Quite a few kickers and punters are seriously struggling.
Alexis Serna and Sandro DeAngelis are below 60% on field goals, Duval is below 65%.
Sakoda is averaging less than 35 yards-per-punt.
Players of the week
Offence: Kevin Glenn – Passing: 29/36 f0r 336 yards, three touchdowns; Rushing: Three attempts, 19 yds
Defence: Dante Marsh – 12 Tackles
Special Teams: Chad Owens - Seven kick returns, 129 yds; Six punt returns, 31 yds
Now… on to Week 4!

Breakdown:
Chris: I went with my first instinct last week, and it paid off well (4-0, baby!). I still don’t think that the Tiger-Cats are the better team, just that they will have a better week.
Jonathan: This is a hard one to call. Was Hamilton’s performance last week a fluke? If so, they will be hard-pressed to beat the Alouettes in Montreal. While Montreal’s defence is suspect, they should have a breakout game at home for the first time this season.
Scott: Hamilton is showing they can play, but can they do it against the beasts of the East? I think with Kevin Glenn playing very sharp, we could see the Tiger-Cats offence put up some decent points again the Alouettes defence. But, can their defense hold Montreal’s offence? I think they can, and that’s why I think Hamilton will get their second win. Hamilton 38-36. |

Breakdown:
Chris: The Argos stymied the Stampeders last week, BC should get the same treatment, especially with Travis Lulay geting the start.
Wait… if Toronto wins, and Montreal loses does that mean the world will end since Toronto will be sole possession of first place?
Jonathan: Toronto’s surprise run should continue this week at home. Their offence won’t need to do much as BC’s offence is struggling.
Scott: Toronto may not be as good as their 2-1 record, but the BC Lions are lucky to be 1-2. I think Printers does give them a better shot than Lulay, but Lulay gets the start. Printers will dress and I am guessing we will see Printers. I am thinking Toronto may just have enough to pull out the W. Toronto 29-21. |

Chris: Edmonton gets a gimme with Jyles starting, after a near win in Regina.
Jonathan: If Edmonton loses this week, they are in big trouble. With Steven Jyles replacing the injured Buck Pierce at quarterback for Winnipeg, the Eskimos have no excuse to lose.
Scott: Buck Pierce is injured? I’m not surprised, but I am disappointed for Buck and for the Bombers. Steven Jyles should be motivated to beat his former team and the Bombers have some talent to be able to beat the Eskimos, but I also think Edmonton will be extra motivated after losing two very close games against two of the CFL’s best teams. Edmonton 30-27. |

Breakdown:
Chris: Neither team looked that good last week, but you gotta give it to the Riders, they squeaked one out when they should have lost. Calgary on the other hand lost to Toronto.
Jonathan: For the most part, the Riders play good in Calgary. Sometimes Calgary does beat them pretty bad at home, but that won’t happen to this year’s team.
Scott: I know that bias will affect everyone’s predictions for this game, including me. I do, however, think I have some good reason to believe the Stampeders will win this week. The Riders have been the team to beat this year, and after a huge output in week one, output has gradually slid. Anytime you beat the Alouettes and score that many points, teams have to take notice. After sneaking out a win against Edmonton, the Riders did show they are human and could be beat. Calgary wasn’t so lucky and losing a game the way they did against Toronto should be a huge motivation this week. Close, but I still have to go with Calgary (big surprise) 35-30. |

Week 2 is done in the CFL and it has sure been a fun two weeks. The Roughriders and Alouettes are quickly proving that they are the teams to beat, while the rest of the league is mired in a mixture of mediocrity.
A few notes from Week Two
The Good
Winnipeg and Toronto both looked pretty good.
Saskatchewan came out firing on all cylinders, carrying forward from last week.
Edmonton looked like a playoff contender for the first half.
The Bad
Edmonton looked like a basement dweller in the second half.
Besides Montreal and Saskatchewan, the league seems to be overrun by inconsistency. If this were Week 8 rather than Week 2, this comment would be in the “The Ugly” section.
The Ugly
Turnovers, turnovers everywhere.
Players of the week
Offence: Buck Pierce – Passing: 25/35, 366yds, 3TDs, 1 INT; Rushing: 7 attempts, 103 yds, 1TD, 1 Fumble
Defence: Jamall Johnson – 9 Tackles, 1 Forced Fumble
Special Teams: Marcus Thigpen – 5 KR, 101 yds, 1TD; 2 PR, 44 yds

Breakdown:
Chris: I have to go with the upset here. Neither team has been amazing thus far, but after last weeks win, the Argos come home to play a Calgary team that hasn’t been overly impressive in their two wins so far.
Jonathan: Calgary is a good team, but I don’t think they are a 3-0 team. Last time they played Toronto they just survived. Playing in Toronto should be tougher, especially since the Argonauts have improved since Week 1.
Scott: The Toronto Argonauts beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers the way they did, left a lot of question marks on who really is strong this week. Was Winnipeg as good as we thought? Was Toronto as bad as we thought? I think Toronto was better, but Calgary’s defense is quite strong this year and the Argos weren’t able to get things going in their first week. Calgary’s got a case of the dropsies, and may feel a little bit lucky to be 2-0. Toronto has confidence now, and playing at home will be tough for Calgary, but the Stampeders will fix some problems, and will still finish on top. Calgary 36-22 |

Breakdown:
Chris: The Ticats have to get it together, and if they can keep Pierce in the pocket, they should be able to force some mistakes, and win one at home.
Jonathan: I’ve put my faith in Hamilton for two week in-a-row and they’ve let me down. Winnipeg should pick up the win even though the game is in Hamilton. The big reason is I don’t think the Tiger-Cats will win is they won’t be able to stop Bombers’ quarterback Buck Pierce.
Scott: This is so hard to pick after both teams seemed to play the opposite of how they did the week before. I think Hamilton’s O-Line may not be what I thought it was, leaving the running game almost out of the equation, but Kevin Glenn was able to put up a lot of yards last week passing. Buck pierce seemed to do well when he wanted to which is a positive thing, but he still didn’t come up with the win. He has to be more consistent and the team has to run more consistently. Tough choice, but Winnipeg is still stronger. Winnipeg 32-26 |

Breakdown:
Chris: Could BC win this game? Yes. Is it likely? No.
They played Saskatchewan well for a few quarters, but the injury to Printers took all of the wind out of their sails. Montreal is simply the better team.
Jonathan: Montreal’s defence has been suspect at times, but the big reason BC will lose this game is because of their horrid offensive line. Montreal will come with a lot of pressure, making it hard for the Lions to match Montreal on offence.
Scott: Montreal is going to be up late Friday night starting the game at 11PM Eastern. That always plays a factor. BUT, I think the Als run defense is strong enough to stop Robertson from having a dominant game. Even if Printers is okay, I think Montreal will pick up a close victory. Montreal 25-18 |

Breakdown:
Chris: Edmonton has been making too many mistakes to compete.
I expected Edmonton to finish third in the West, but if they keep making this many mistakes they will be lucky to make the playoffs as the crossover team.
Jonathan: Saskatchewan is the hottest team in the CFL. Edmonton will be in very tough to win on the road against them. However, if Fred Stamps and Kelly Campbell can continue their strong play it could be close.
Scott: I have a feeling Edmonton is going to break out one of these days, and for the sake of the Riders, I hope it’s not this week. I don’t think the Eskimos match up with the Riders, but if they stretch out the field with a strong passing game against the Riders suspect pass defense, it might be a tough night. I’m not sure if this is the week though, and it’s even tougher to go against the Riders at home. Saskatchewan 31-25 |

Week 1 is done in the CFL and for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Eskimos, it will likely be a rallying point to improve on their failures, while the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders will rally on their successes. Regardless of the outcomes in Week 1, it’s too late to change what happened. All teams can do is learn from their mistakes and move on to the task at hand in Week 2.
A few notes from Week One
The Good
The Toronto Argonauts weren’t terrible in the first half and were able to hang with the Calgary Stampeders.
The Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan, Calgary and Winnipeg have to be proud of their offensive performances.
Winnipeg should be proud of their defensive performance as well.
Hamilton was pretty darn good on special teams.
The Bad
Montreal, Saskatchewan, and Hamilton need to work hard to improve their defence. Everyone seemed to show a little rust, but it is only Week 1.
The Ugly
The BC/Edmonton game was a mess. Neither team should be overly proud of their performances.
Speaking of bad performances, what happened to Hamilton?
Players of the week
Offence: Darian Durant – Passing: 30/44, 478yds, 5TDs; Rushing: 5 attempts, 52 yds, 1TD, 1 Fumble
Defence: Joe Lobendahn – 8 tackles, 2 sacks
Special Teams: Marcus Thigpen – 6 KR, 148 yds, 1TD

Chris: The Blue Bombers looked great, The Double Blue didn’t.
Jonathan: I didn’t have faith in the Bombers in Week 1, but I do this week. Then again, it would be hard for anyone to pick Toronto to win any game this season. Winnipeg wins easily at home.
Scott: The Blue Bombers showed what a good team with good coaching can do in last weeks win over Hamilton. Toronto shouldn’t be much of a challenge, and for their sake, I hope they can hold onto the ball for more than last week. I don’t expect much more from Toronto though, so Winnipeg shouldn’t be tested too much. WINNIPEG 42-19 |

Breakdown:
Chris: Calgary showed some rust in the first half, but came on strong in the second half. Hamilton should pray that they can keep their special teams on the field, otherwise they may not score this season.
Jonathan: Calgary barely beat the worst team in the league. They have some big question marks still. Hamilton was beaten badly in Week 1, but they are better than they looked in that loss. Look for the Tiger-Cats to bounce back with a big victory at home.
Scott: Hopefully the Stampeders use more of the playbook, because Hamilton should be more of a challenge than the Argos. Hamilton will also be motivated after a lopsided loss last week, and while Sandro Deangelis will want to beat his former team, the Stamps will also want to make Sandro regret his choice to leave the team he won the Grey Cup with in 2008. Breakdown:
Chris: BC still has a lot of rust to shake off, luckily for them Jamal Robertson seems ready to carry them while Casey Printers builds up some momentum, but Robertson can only carry them so far. Saskatchewan has to be happy to be facing Printers after getting torched by Anthony Calvillo last week.
Jonathan: This is actually an interesting match-up. Saskatchewan faces Printers, whose mobility always seems to cause them troubles. They also face a team that will run the ball much more than Montreal did in Week 1. However, B.C. no longer plays in a dome and Saskatchewan is going into their natural element playing outdoors on the road. B.C. will struggle containing Saskatchewan’s potent passing game.
Scott: The Riders offense is in good shape, and if they can continue to run the ball effectively along with keeping the passing game going, it should be a tough day for the Lions. The biggest question will be whose defense plays better. BC has a solid secondary and should give more of a test than Montreal. Durant is the key though, so the Riders should come out on top. Breakdown:
Chris: Montreal looked good last week… Edmonton, not so much.
Jonathan: Ricky Ray once again had respectable stats in Week 1, but his offence just isn’t explosive. Arkee Whitlock is a stud, but the receiving core isn’t amazing. Kelly Campbell looks affected by his past injuries just a little bit. But the big thing is, the Eskimos will have their handful with Montreal’s amazing offence.
Scott: Is Edmonton this bad? Shouldn’t they be able to put up more points against BC? You’d think so with Ricky Ray throwing to Fred Stamps and Kelly Campbell, and with Calvin McCarty running the ball. Defensively they held BC to mostly Field Goals, but I don’t think they will be able to do that against Montreal. Montreal was as deserving of the win in Saskatchewan and after giving up a 21 point second half lead will be quite ornery. MONTREAL 36-26 |

After eight long months, CFL football is back and for the next 19 weeks we get to ride the roller coaster that is the regular season, leading up to the 98th Grey Cup in Edmonton. We at CFL Daily Dose are all excited for the season and each week we will break down the games and make our predictions of who will win.

Breakdown:
Chris: Montreal has loads of talent, there’s no questioning that, but they aren’t a young team. They will win the East, and do well in the playoffs, but I don’t see a week one win, especially in Regina where the Riders and their rabid fans will make it very difficult to shake off the rust.
Scott: Montreal is still strong, but after coming so close to winning the ultimate CFL Prize, the Riders will be extra motivated to beat the Als.
Saskatchewan 45-39.
Jonathan: Saskatchewan is great at home. If this game was in Montreal, I may have picked the Alouettes to win. Whatever happens, this should be the game of the week. What a way to start the season! |

Scott: The Ti-Cats have really increased their depth and strengthened their O-Line to protect a healthy Kevin Glenn. Buck Pierce gives Winnipeg a much greater chance than previous Quarterbacks(Kevin Glenn excluded), but I don’t think the Bombers will have enough to overpower Hamilton.
Hamilton 31-17.
Jonathan: Pierce will most definetly be injured on his first play of the game, leaving Jyles to run the show. This will go well until Jyles fumbles a quarterback sneak on Hamilton’s one-yard line and Jamall Johnson picks it up and runs for a touchdown. |

Chris: Game four this week really could go either way, with these two teams likely to end up fighting for third and fourth in the division, the loser of that fight crossing over to the East in the post season. The Eskimos are 4-0-1 in their last five home openers. This week, the Eskimos come out on top.
Scott: A Shootout at Commonwealth last week could see a little bit more of the same. Edmonton’s defense is a little stronger, and Ray a lot more protection than Printers.
Edmonton 35-33.
Jonathan: The fact is, if Edmonton wasn’t hosting the Grey Cup, people wouldn’t be predicting them to finish so high. This is the same team that finished 9-9 last season. In this game, Casey Printers is going to come in and do what he does best, steal a game on the road. |
